After crossed bids and claims,
Together for Change
managed to resolve one of the most complicated districts prior to the closing of lists.
The radical
Roberto Sánchez
will be the candidate for governor of Tucumán, seconded by
the Peronist Germán Alfaro
, supported by the PRO.
Alfaro, current mayor of the capital, gave way in the provincial dispute to preserve the definition of his succession in the municipality:
the candidate in San Miguel will be his wife, Senator Beatriz Avila.
Until this Monday, Sánchez and Alfaro were disputing the candidacy for governor and threatened to each go their own way.
They had even
written down different fronts
to compete separately, which practically annulled the chances of both and in turn put at risk the mayor's office of the capital and three others -Yerba Buena, Concepción and Bella Vista- currently in the power of radicalism.
At one point they had sought to define it based on surveys, but both showed surveys with more favorable numbers than their rival.
Mauricio Macri
from Europe communicated with Sánchez and José Cano.
Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, Patricia Bullrich and Gerardo Morales
also interceded
to avoid a break.
In the midst of negotiations against time, the radicals proposed that the candidate for governor hand over the decision on the ballot in the capital to the vice candidate.
At first, the PRO leaders did not accept it, arguing that San Miguel was already in the hands of Alfaro and that with this criterion the municipalities led by the UCR also had to enter the discussion.
Rodríguez Larreta and Morales, who have been close recently on the Juntos por el Cambio board, spoke on Monday to unlock the stage in Tucumán, a few hours before the deadline for the different fronts to confront Peronism to be confirmed.
Osvaldo Jaldo and Juan Manzur have already launched
- the elections will be on May 14 -, with the purpose of retaining the governorship and going for the municipalities in the hands of the opposition.
“Congratulations to Germán Alfaro and Roberto Sánchez for having reached an agreement.
They are an example of commitment and responsibility, putting the Tucumans and the unit of Together for Change above all else”, Rodríguez Larreta celebrated the agreement on social networks.
“I have no doubts: together we are going to transform Tucumán forever!
They have my full support”, closed the head of government.
Morales was also satisfied with the resolution, after pressure from the PRO to get Sánchez to get off.
"Gerardo does not deliver radicals", they puffed out their chests near the head of the UCR, once confirmed that the former Rally rider, current deputy and former mayor of Concepción will lead the ballot in Tucumán.
