A change is pending at 3sat.

The parent company ZDF will discontinue the popular business format “makro” at the end of the year.

Restructuring is given as a reason.

Mainz - The business format "makro" has been an integral part of 3sat for years.

But the magazine will soon be over, as the parent company ZDF has now announced.

It should be over at the end of the year.

The reason given is the reallocation of program funds.

"makro": Successor of "3satbörse"

The “makro” format has been on 3sat since 2011.

It is the successor to "3satbörse".

The original format flickered on the broadcaster's screens for the first time in 1989.

Since several changes, "makro" has been a pure reporting format since summer 2021.

But the redesign didn't seem to have the desired effect.

As part of the strategy process "One ZDF for everyone", program funds would be reallocated in favor of younger target groups, is the explanation, as "DWDL" reports.

“makro” falls victim to this procedure.

Even if "makro" were dropped, the topic of business would remain an "important part of the 3sat program".

According to "DWDL": "With the help of the human resources that are freed up, economic reporting will be expanded, especially for the ZDFmediathek and on ZDFheute."

Changes in "macro"

Before "makro" became a pure reporting format, those responsible tried to switch between documentation and live magazine on a weekly basis.

The slot has also been relocated, and until 2020 the format always ran on Fridays at 9 p.m.

After that, Tuesday became “macro” day.

The show also starts later, at 10:30 p.m.

The next issue can be seen on March 14th.

It is not yet known when the final episode will air.

The film adaptation of the novel "Der Schwarm" by bestselling author Frank Schätzing (65) has had fantastic ratings on ZDF for three days in a row.

The eight-part series is causing problems for the German TV landscape.
