The Avignon Festival, "a civic celebration"

Tiago Rodrigues, new director of the largest theater in the world, unveiled the program for the 77th edition yesterday. A poster that intends to respond to “the challenges of our time”.


In jeans and a suit jacket, Tiago Rodrigues unveiled yesterday, live from La FabricA in Avignon, the program for the 77th edition which will take place from July 5 to 25.

He first had a thought for Françoise Nyssen, the former Minister of Culture, who lost her husband on Tuesday.

Tiago Rodrigues, who is also a director and actor, succeeds Olivier Py.

Director of the largest theater in the world since September 1, 2022, born in Lisbon in 1977, he considers this event to be a

"civic celebration, a place for meetings and exchanges, debates, dialogues and hope nourished by living arts”.

The manager, who speaks perfect French, intends to respond to the

"challenges of our time"

through an eclectic program and

"singular"

projects , 55% of which are carried out by women.
