At least 23 people are missing in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, and it is feared that they were kidnapped, according to local media such as Reforma, El Universal, Milenio TV and Aristegui Noticias, which also indicate that another 16 people whose whereabouts were also unknown , but who belonged to another group, have been located alive after allegedly being victims of a robbery.

The group of 23 people came from the state of Guanajuato and, according to the owner of the transport company of the trucks in which they were traveling, they are still missing.

On Wednesday, their location was reported in the local press, apparently being confused with the other group of 16 people, who, according to the authorities, were assaulted in the same area in a period of less than 48 hours, although in this case it was not they were kidnapped.

The Guanajuato Government Secretary, Libia Dennise, reported on Wednesday the disappearance of the 21 passengers and two drivers who had left Monday night in two trucks from the municipality of San Felipe to Saltillo, in the state of Coahuila. , as reported by the Reforma newspaper.

The owner of the tourist company Grupo Eifel, Adrián Gónzalez Castillo, told Reforma that he was able to locate the vans thanks to his GPS.

Both vehicles (15 passengers were traveling in one and six in the other, in addition to the two drivers) were geolocated near the town of Noria de los Conos, in the municipality of Matehuala.

"We have no news of them," he said, "

it was a kidnapping."

González told the newspaper that the person who hired the service, whom he identified as Luis Ángel Ramírez, called him to tell him that the passengers had been detained and that they were asking for 60,000 pesos [$3,300] per person for their release.

"He comments that he stopped them in the

morning

, he locked them in a warehouse," González explained to Milenio TV.

González added that he does not know the reason for the group's trip and that, according to the person who hired the service, the victims are all men.

“[The contractor] is a person who requested the service, we do not know him, we do not know anything about him, he has been in communication at all times, and he is the one who negotiated.

Around 5 in the afternoon, he told us that two or three people were missing to deposit the 60,000 pesos ,

he told Milenio TV.

González raised his voice after the mayor of San Felipe, Eduardo Maldonado García, said that 16 people had been found alive in Matehuala and that some were originally from Guanajuato, to undo the confusion that they belonged to the same group.

The San Luis Potosí Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that it managed to locate 16 people who were victims of robbery.

The people are in good health, out of danger and back with their families, added the Prosecutor's Office, which recovered the vehicle in which they were traveling.
