The trade deficit reached 164 billion euros in 2022, compared to 85 billion euros in 2021. The deterioration of the trade balance from 2019 to 2022 results from the deterioration of the energy balance by 60% and that of trade in products industrial for 40%.

Between 2019 and 2022, France lost market share and deteriorated its external balance in almost all industrial sectors.

The deficit in trade in goods and services reached 3.3% of GDP in 2022, the highest deficit since 1948.

France's share of euro zone goods exports has fallen by 31% from 2000 to 2022, a period during which the share of manufacturing industry in GDP has fallen by the same amount and our share of world exports of manufactured goods fell by half.
