Anyone who grew up in the 2000s can remember the action game American McGee's Alice, which featured a twisted and creepy version of Alice in Wonderland.

The game was developed by American James McGee, one of the original developers and designers of the Doom and Wolfenstein series at the iconic iD company.

Despite rave reviews from players and critics, EA, which distributed the game, was in no rush to approve a sequel, and it took more than a decade before we got Alice: Madness Returns in 2011.

For years, fans have been hoping for a third game in the trilogy, but now we can be sure: it won't happen.

And we hear this from McGee himself.

For the past few years, McGee has funded through Patreon a working plan for a sequel called Alice: Asylum.

He called it the "design bible" of the game, and it included detailed instructions for full development at every stage: concept art and design pages, division into teams, precise timetables and budgets.

The hope was to present EA with as detailed a work plan as possible so that they could approve a third sequel game, but according to a message published this week it seems that they decided to give up the pleasure: "Immediately after I finished working on 'The Bible' I went back to talk with EA and the efforts to approve a new game .

They were presented with an orderly plan regarding the production," McGee explained on the Patreon page.

"After several weeks in which we examined the proposal, EA came back with a response and asked about the financing. Finally, they decided to give up the project based on internal studies of the intellectual property, the state of the market, and the details provided."

Those who hoped that EA might sell this brand and transfer it to a distributor who would be interested in a third game - unfortunately that will not happen either.

McGee went on to explain that EA is not interested in selling Alice and they consider it "an important part of their game catalog".

At this point, he has exhausted all the options available to him, and there is no chance of advancing the project.

He stated that he is exhausted, but he thanks all the fans who supported him in the project and all the artists and creators who took part in it.
