The dispute between Larreta and Macri over the voting system in the City divides the PRO candidates

2023-04-09T18:52:45.825Z

The former president came out to pressure the Head of Government so that he does not double the Buenos Aires election.

After

Mauricio Macri's message to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta rejecting the intention to use two different voting systems

to elect president and Head of Government in the next elections, the different PRO candidates positioned themselves on one side and on the other in the internal opposition.

The initiative that is gaining momentum in the City is that the voting of the national categories will be carried out separately from the Buenos Aires offices, although on the same day.

Apparently, the head of Government has made the decision to call

concurrent elections

in the City.

"It seems wrong to me to change the rules at the last minute," Jorge Macri questioned

this Sunday in an interview with Radio Rivadavia.

"This system of voting with two different mechanisms on the same day has never been used in the City. This is an expensive and complex experiment for me, because each person is going to have to vote in two different dark rooms, with two ballot boxes, or in the same room but

it will take twice as long

," he added

"There are two systems, two different mechanisms and the vote would be long. In this case, people would expect much more and I am concerned that it will alter participation. It is a decision that has not yet been made, but it is complex," said Macri, who opined that the moment is not propitious because the people "are with little patience".

He also said that he discussed this possibility with Larreta and announced that this Monday they will have a meeting on the subject.

We agreed to meet tomorrow, so I assume there will be no decision beforehand, but it would seem -from the news- that that is the decision.

Finally, he affirmed that he "plays on any field" and that he trusts the decision that the Buenos Aires people make.

"People are adults, they know how to vote and they don't scare me.

I would not force electoral systems based on speculation,

based on whether it suits me or not," he closed.

For her part, the Minister of Education of the City Soledad Acuña (also a pre-candidate for Head of Government) took an intermediate position, since she stressed the importance of "unifying" the date of the election, but left open the possibility of using the ballot only.

"It is important to unify the date, but also to comply with the rules that already exist in the City, such as

the Single ticket and have a system that allows autonomy to be respected

," he said in a dialogue with Rivadavia radio.

The official also stressed

the need to not generate more expenses to the State

and force the Buenos Aires to go to the polls several Sundays continuously.

"There is no decision yet, but all these options are being considered," Acuña said.

On the other hand, Diego Santilli supported the unfolding measure, although he stated that it is not yet closed.

"Horacio has to give that definition between now and next week, as far as I know the decision has not been made," said the former Buenos Aires deputy head of government and current candidate for Buenos Aires governor.

"He has to make the decision in the power of the head of government with the electoral code of the City, which is a modern code that establishes a single ballot and electronic ballot. It is something that those of us who are part of the PRO have fought for many years and those of us who believe in Together for Change," he said.

Santilli gave as an example the internship in which he competed with Facundo Manes in 2021. "It was very healthy. It allowed us to expand our base. At first there were some sparks, but we quickly found a tone and rhythm with Facundo. Thanks to that primary

he We were able to win against Kirchnerism in the province

," he argued.

"The primary is for that if you take it that way. If later you start with the attacks and problems within your space it will get complicated, because here you win by one vote," he summed up
