A second gendarme died on Wednesday April 12 after being seriously injured in an accident during a roadside check the day before in the Landes which had caused the death of one of his colleagues, announced Gérald Darmanin.
The gendarme died in hospital "
as a result of his injuries
", said the Minister of the Interior in a press release.
A 25-year-old non-commissioned officer, he joined the gendarmerie in 2017 and had been a member of the Labouheyre motorized platoon "
for almost a year
", added Gérald Darmanin, saluting his memory.
A “high-speed” vehicle
The accident took place Tuesday before four o'clock on a departmental road northwest of Mont-de-Marsan.
In wanting to control a vehicle that was driving "
dangerously at high speed
", the two gendarmes hit the trailer of a tractor when it was turning on an adjacent lane, according to the authorities.
Despite the intervention of the emergency services, a 59-year-old reservist non-commissioned officer, married and father of two children, died on the spot.
An investigation, entrusted to the research brigade of the Mont-de-Marsan gendarmerie company, was opened by the Mont-de-Marsan prosecutor's office, which launched a call for witnesses.
