Welcome to the home of a couple and their three children, located in one of the new areas in Herzliya, where the plots were parceled out and divided into small lots.

The person responsible for the planning and design of the house is the architect Ron Spiegel, owner of the firm Spiegel Architects, who accompanied the couple from the stage of purchasing the land, prior to construction.

"Like all the lots in the area, theirs is relatively long and narrow, a detail that can be a challenge in planning a large house that also manages to include a large and well-equipped yard, with facilities such as a pool and an outdoor kitchen; but taking advantage of the high percentage of construction allowed us to achieve all this and more," he recalls Spiegel, "We designed a 4-story house that includes a basement floor - where we designed the family room, the bathroom and storage areas, a ground floor - which includes the common functions, a first floor - where the children's rooms were designed, and an attic floor - where the parents' bedroom suite is located who also enjoy a large and private balcony."

A narrow and long lot.

The narrow lot, and the fact that the house faces an alley, made the design options for the front facade somewhat limited, but a solution was found for this issue as well: "We used the high facade to combine several materials and thus it became intriguing and unique: on the lower floors we created connections of plaster, wood and concrete and on the upper floors We combined stucco and wood elements with a polished porcelain covering. We covered the entrance door area up to a height of 7 meters with wood-like aluminum - a motif that only emphasizes the height dimension. The area of the upper floor is larger than the ones below it and it rides above them."

Upon opening the door, we will discover the staircase and it is clear that a lot of thought was put into our design: "We created metal stairs with a thickness of 10 mm which we covered with oak panels and the railing is made of iron rods in a diagonal weave, which creates a lot of interest.

The resulting look is organic and light, and as a rule, the gram serves as a very central and present axis - from the basement floor to the roof floor," explains the architect. "In addition, we planned a shaft in one of the walls next to the kitchen and in the future, if they decide, an elevator can be installed."

On the entrance floor, the public functions were planned: the living room, the kitchen, the guest services and the pantry: "This is a family that likes to cook, so we designed a spacious and functional kitchen for them that is accompanied by large and significant windows all around. It is divided into a low axis and the island whose fronts are covered with extremely durable formica panels with a stone texture. The high front is covered with oak In the porcelain countertops we bought integral sinks (one of them on the island) and also a double system of stoves: a gas stove on the surface and an induction stove on the island, where most of the cooking is done."

The living room dominates the entire width of the floor, therefore Spiegel created a minimal and transparent corner window that opens towards the pool: "On this facade there are as few divisions and diversions as possible, especially in the corner facing the pool, to create an almost unmediated connection between the inside and the outside. In addition, we connected the yard to the public space by an external pergola that shelters over the square."

"In the living room space, we created a long and significant carpentry facade that is used for storage, for the integration of the air conditioning system and also for the television screen. We used a concrete-like cladding which we carved into an asymmetrical composition and in its lower part we added a horizontal oak strip that introduces a dimension of warmth and breaks the uniform mass. The dining area is located near the gram the stairs and sits partly under the double space."

Dealing with the small area is also correct in this house with reference to the garden: "In order to create a correct and balanced division of the interior spaces, the entrance door to the house is located more or less in the center of the lot and naturally there is a long way to get to it. To make it experiential and pleasant, we created concrete paths divided between them Vegetation was planted - the feeling is that you are moving towards the house through a garden and not through a long heavenly path."

explains the architect.

"As you progress along the route, you are also exposed to the blue pool water that appears in the background and this is a product of planning thought."

"The backyard is not very large and is R-shaped - this is how we created a balanced and correct distance between the functions outside and those inside the house. We created a large enough area for outdoor activities, thanks in no small part to the location of the pool which left us with a fairly large area of grass. Under the pergola stands the outdoor dining area and next to it an area In addition, a lounge seating area was designed in a shaded area near the swimming pool. Although the yard is not very large, the composition and the correct position of the functions make the interaction in it pleasant."

While the ground floor is covered with large porcelain granite tiles, the floor of the children's rooms is covered with a wooden parquet floor that adds warmth and intimacy.

On this floor, 3 suites with en-suite bathrooms were planned and the eldest daughter won a suite that also includes a walk-in closet and an intimate balcony.

Each room is designed and equipped according to the age, taste and hobbies of the young tenant and in the center of the floor there is a family corner from which there is an exit to a common balcony and a general storage area, behind it is the utility room with the washing machine and dryer.

Parents' kingdom on the roof (photo: Elad Gonen)

In the attic is the kingdom of the parents where Spiegel was able to make the most of the licensing aspects and construction percentages, in order to turn the attic into a room for everything.

He created a sloping ceiling with gallery wood sources painted white with a wash effect, which made the entire space interesting and special also on an architectural level.

The suite, which is approximately 30 square meters, includes a bedroom with a large wall cabinet where the TV screen is also located, a bathroom with a large shower and a free-standing bathtub (between it and the bedroom is a glass partition, except for the bathroom area where a built-in wall was planned) and a private balcony It has a large transparent railing that allows a perfect view of the landscape.

Contrast with the sanitary utensils (photo: Elad Gonen)

Spiegel chose to design the floor in monotonous colors of white and black - dark wooden parquet against the light walls, dark tiles in the bathroom with a metallic rust finish against the white sanitary ware and more.

The color was combined in the right doses in accessories and objects.
