Michigan researchers have found the remains of
two ships that vanished
on Lake Superior in 1914, and hope the find will lead them to a third ship that sank at the same time, with
30 people aboard
the trio of logging company ships. .
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society announced the discoveries after confirming details with other researchers.
Ric Mixter, a society board member and maritime historian, said witnessing the discoveries was a "highlight" of his career.

Ships of the
Edward Hines Lumber Company
sank in frigid lake waters on November 18, 1914, when they were caught in a storm while carrying lumber from Baraga, Michigan, to Tonawanda, New York.
The steamer CF Curtis towed the rafts Selden E. Marvin and Annie M. Peterson;
all 28 people on board were killed.

The organization maintains a museum at Whitefish Point and organizes shipwreck searches to tell "the lost history of all the Great Lakes," especially Lake Superior, said Corey Adkins, director of communications for the society.
The sunken ships were found
20 miles
north of Grand Marais, Michigan, further from the lake's shoreline than contemporary accounts implied, Adkins said.
The bow of the Marvin and the stern of the Curtis were damaged, so the corporal would ask if there was
a collision between the two
