According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the reason for the changeable weather character is a "low pressure influence in connection with cool sea air".

Weather in Germany: Snow and continuous rain in Germany

Jung reported snowfall up to 700 meters on Friday (April 14).

People in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia got a cold start to Friday with ground and partial air frost.
According to Jung, up to 50 centimeters of fresh snow are expected from 1000 to 1500 meters.
While there could still be snowfall in the high areas of the mountains on Saturday, according to the DWD, there should be constant rain in other regions over the weekend.
For example in the Erzgebirge and Zittau Mountains and in the foothills until Saturday noon.
In the Upper Palatinate Forest, in the Bavarian Forest and in parts of Lower Bavaria, there can also be precipitation with amounts of around 50 liters per square meter until Sunday morning.
Experts expect 60 to 70 liters per square meter east of the Inn, and up to 90 liters per square meter in congested areas.

24 or even 25 degrees are expected there in the west on Saturday in a week and thus continue to be the first summer day of the year.
The differences in the weather forecast couldn't be bigger."
