Great grief and anger following the death of Muhammad Abu Huash, a 14-year-old boy, who was shot to death this morning (Saturday) during a fight in the city.

"A child was killed. It is very sad, not only for us, but for the entire Arab sector," said the boy's uncle, Bassem.

"If a police car had been here, the incident would have been avoided," he claimed.

The incident started already during the night, when a fight between clans apparently started following an argument on the road.

After receiving reports of shots fired in the area, the police arrived at the scene, and as they said, restored peace to the area.

However, several hours later the shooting resumed, during which Abu Huash and another 17-year-old boy were shot, who was slightly injured and was taken to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

"The shooting lasted for about 40 minutes, a child was killed from point blank range," Bassam continued, "Police forces are lacking, they arrived after the incident and not during the shooting," he claimed.

"Everyone needs to take responsibility, both the police and the parents. Where is Ben Gabir and the security? Bedouin society needs to take responsibility," he continued.

"We felt like we were in a war," said one of the residents excitedly.

"All night there was shooting in the city. The police arrived and even then the shooting continued."

According to the mayor, Faiz Abu Tshaiban, the fight developed over a dispute between neighbors.

"The neighbors fought and as a result - we lost a boy. My message to the public is that we must get into this, all the people who can influence, together with the police and the municipality and calm the spirits. These are neighbors, houses that are close to each other. There is a fear of another flare-up."

He requested that the presence of the police in the city be increased.

"Yesterday there was more than one scene and I saw that the police brought forces. I want this thing to remain always and not only when there is an incident. The feeling of security should be there all the time, with the help of patrols and presence in the field," he said.

"I very much hope that we will get through these days, separate the families and return to normal after we bury the boy. It's a sad situation. I'm anxious and hurt inside," he concluded.
