Brigadier General Avigdor Kahalani will raise a beacon on the 75th Independence Day for the State of Israel - this is what Minister Miri Regev announced today (Sunday). Kahalani is the recipient of the Heroic Decoration and the Exemplary Decoration from the battles in which he fought in the Six Day Wars and Yom Kippur. And on Yom Kippur he commanded a battalion in the battle of the Baka Valley in the Golan.

"With great excitement I informed the hero of our childhood, Avigdor Kahalani, of his choice to raise a torch on the 75th Independence Day," said Regev. "Avigdor Kahalani is a symbol and example of dedication, leadership and Zionism.

Together with him will stand on the stage all the tens of thousands who fought fifty years ago in the battlefields of the Golan and Sinai, on land in the air and at sea.

Heroes of the Yom Kippur War to whom the State of Israel owes its life."

Regev also announced that she had also chosen the creator of Shalom Essayig from among the public committee's recommendations.

In the words of the committee, it was stated that Essig, winner of the Television Academy Award, is "one of the first stand-up comedians who appeared on Channel 2 at the beginning of his career. Since then, he has been a film and television actor, producer, screenwriter, editor, host and leading television creator. In all his years on stage and on the screen, Essig has not distanced himself from his family's heritage and his hometown Carmel Castle, to which his family immigrated from Morocco. He chose to use art to tell the story of his family and his community - out of a deep sense of love, belonging and compassion, and evoked empathy among immigrant families from all diasporas."

Regev said: "Shalom Assig has been making Israeli society laugh and moving for many years, and teaches us that the Israeli story is only complete when it consists of the stories of all shades of society."
