Starnberg

– The phoenix rises – not from the ashes, as the well-known saying goes.

Rather, the mythical bird is the dominant attribute of a wall painting on Gautinger Strasse in Starnberg.

The internationally active Munich street artist Martin Blumöhr - "I prefer to call myself a mural artist" - is currently designing a container building that Richard Freiherr von Rheinbaben had built on the grounds of the tennis and padel courts.

It is the domicile of his "mediantis AG" after he had to give up the long-standing company location in Tutzing's Kustermann Park in autumn.

Starnberger will soon have the opportunity to follow the project.

Blumöhr has named his Starnberg project "Uuirmseo".

That is the medieval name for the Würmsee (since 1962 Starnberger See).

"Uuirmseo" is part of the Munich artist's "Public Viewing" series, which began in 2005 when Blumöhr began to trace aspects of social interaction in large-format wall works.

The compositions of his works should refer to the local location of the place of origin and to historical events.

The artist researches on site and relies on communication with the local population, with passers-by who pass by his studios in public space or who specifically visit them.

Blumöhr explicitly invites you to "Public Viewing" on two consecutive weekends.

The start is on April 29th and 30th.

The weather of the past few weeks and months has thrown the wall painter's schedule upside down.

Wetness and temperatures in the freezing and single-digit range had tied his hands.

Blumöhr is optimistic that the weather will not put a spanner in the works on the planned public viewing dates.

And that as many interested and curious visitors as possible not only look at the brushwork, but also provide ideas for the design of the mural.

It is no coincidence that Blumöhr placed the phoenix at the center of “Uuirmseo”.

Freiherr von Rheinbaben chose the mythical bird as the namesake for his prize for talented young visual artists, which has been awarded since 2005.

"Phoenix from the Ashes" symbolizes the young artists,

The bird on the front of the container building will catch the eye of the viewer approaching Starnberg from the north on Gautinger Straße.

Blumöhr will let the mighty tail swing over the façade facing the street to the southern end.

The tail is, so to speak, the carrier of the numerous facets that open up with and around the lake.

The "Kini" and his supposed death by drowning are discussed, the Roseninsel, the Buchheim Museum, the Rottmannshöhe, the Undosa, the Bucentaur and its dinghy "Delphin" exhibited in the Lake Starnberg Museum, as well as the people on the lake, for example the fishermen - Families will find themselves in the mural.

And other aspects that the artist hopes to learn from conversations with passers-by and visitors to the public viewing weekends.
