Until a few years ago, "
pomodoro
" was one of the most erotic words for Americans.
Just like “
salsa
”, “
penne
” and “
spaghetti
”.
Although they wanted more sauce than normal on their pasta, as well as garlic and cheese.
Italian cuisine reigned supreme on American tables, until it was contaminated and then overtaken.
First there was
macaroni & cheese
, an American-style pasta covered in chewy cheese.
Then it was the turn of
tacos
,
chicken taco salad
, and dishes based on
tajìn
,
chili pepper
and lime.
Today, the preferred cuisine in major American restaurant chains is no longer Italian, but Tex-Mex, a fusion of American, Mexican and Latin cuisines: more tacos
and
less spaghetti, more spicy flavors and less round flavors.
Italian pizza is still the most popular dish, even if, with a few exceptions…
