A week-long quarrel between Martin Gruber and his brother Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 51), mysterious patient cases and the cliffhanger end since Mama Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner, 71) has been in a coma – the 16th "Bergdoktor" season was from the beginning to a roller coaster ride.
Filming for the new episodes is scheduled to start this month and there should be one thing above all on the wish list of many fans of the ZDF home series: a little rest for the mountain doctor and Co. - and according to Hans Sigl, that's exactly what the plan is.

“Season 16 turned out to be a bit darker for people.
Martin Gruber had to go through and experience a few things that made the whole thing a bit darker and that was a good thing.” Luckily, better days seem to be dawning in Elmau soon.

Since 2008, Hans Sigl has embodied the title hero Martin Gruber in "Der Bergdoktor".
The exciting life of the country doctor inspires millions of loyal fans with every episode and has made his actor one of the biggest stars of German television.
But what very few people know: the role as the son of Lisbeth Gruber is not Hans Sigl's first Bergdoktor appearance.
Because ten years before he slipped into the white doctor's coat, he was already seen as a taxi driver in the popular series that was still running on Sat.1 at the time and in which Gerhard Lippert, a completely different mountain doctor, was the focus.
Who knows - maybe an extra from the ZDF remake will one day succeed Hans Sigl?

"But we saw that the audience also went along well with this journey and now, I think, the crisis is over and we will see Martin Gruber again with lighter feet," explains Hans Sigl.
But the native Austrian rules out one thing – the Bergdoktor has not yet got his happy ending in love.
"I think that's the USP of this story, that we're watching this character find happiness or watch him find happiness."
