The
smoke
that since Sunday affects the City and municipalities in the suburbs continues this Monday and could continue
until Tuesday,
according to the forecasts made by the
National Meteorological Service (SMN).
It is estimated that the
east wind
will continue to blow and there are sources of fires that remain active.
The fire started on Saturday in
Costa de Pereira, a town in the Department of San José
, located between Colonia de Sacramento (92 kilometers) and Montevideo (86 km), in Uruguay.
According to local firefighters, the fire is
"under control" but it still could not be put out
because it is in a "difficult" place to access.
In addition, they added that they were looking for means to combat it from the air.
"To the fog with which the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) woke up
was added the smoke that has been there since Sunday,"
said Cindy Fernández, spokesperson for the SMN, adding: "
The entire region is affected equally."
Fernández also affirmed that until Tuesday, inclusive,
"similar conditions of fog and smoke may continue.
This is because the humid environment and the wind from the East will continue, which is what contributes to the
smoke from Uruguay reaching this coast of the Río de la Plata
while the fire remains active".
The smoke invaded the City again this Monday morning.

According to the SMN,
the wind will begin to rotate only on Tuesday afternoon
, when it will take a southwest direction, to change to the northwest at night.
Regarding the
most affected neighborhoods and municipalities,
coinciding with what Fernández says, the Buenos Aires government reported that
the reports of smoke occurred evenly
throughout the City, although in the areas closest to the river the concentration of smoke seemed to be older.
As Clarín
learned
from official sources, of the three stations that make the measurements, the one that detected the highest concentration was
La Boca.
The other two are located in Parque Centenario and in Rodríguez Peña and Córdoba.
In the morning, the entire strip closest to the Río de la Plata was the first affected by the smoke.
But then the low visibility and the smell of burning spread to neighborhoods further from the river, such as
Villa Crespo, Palermo or Caballito
, where the combination of smoke and fog reduced visibility equally.
Regarding the complications, beyond the low visibility, which became more dangerous in the accesses to the City from the North, the South and the West, there were no road incidents related to this phenomenon.
There were also no cancellations or delays
in the flights that take off and land at both the Jorge Newbery Airport and the Ezeiza Airport.
"Based on the data reported by the City's atmospheric monitoring stations and by virtue of the presence of
smoke odor detected,
it is reported that at the moment all the registered pollutants are
below the admissible limits
established by Law No. 1,356 and Resolution No. 68-GCABA-APRA/21", transmitted from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Environment through a statement.
And they added: "In the case of particulate matter,
an increasing curve was observed from 5 o'clock,
values that could be indicating the entry of particles from the fires in Uruguay and that are transported by the easterly wind."
On the other hand, they reported that according to the recorded data "it can be concluded that the appearance of adverse symptoms is not likely, even in the population most sensitive to these contaminants."
However, the smoke does cause adverse effects such as itchy eyes and throat and even headache.
The most affected are those people with
allergies or respiratory conditions.
"Smoke and suspended particles
mainly affect people who have
allergy-related respiratory pathologies, such as asthma and chronic rhinitis, and may also compromise COPD patients," the specialists agree.
In addition, they ensure that in these groups, smoke can cause bronchial hyperreactivity and, consequently, bronchospasm, "especially in those patients who do not adequately comply with the controller treatment with inhaled corticosteroids."
In this sense, if the pictures are aggravated by smoke, they recommend making medical consultations with pulmonologists or allergists.
