Thousands of people came this evening (Monday) to the Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony at Yehoshua Gardens Park in Tel Aviv.

The representatives of the bereaved families and the Palestinian families who lost their loved ones spoke at the event, among them Anat Marnin who bereaved her two brothers, Adel Abu Budawiya who bereaved his younger brother, Yosra Mahfoud who bereaved her son and Yuval Sapir who bereaved his sister.

During the speeches, some right-wing activists demonstrated outside the venue and shouted hateful slogans.

Yosra Mahfuz, who lost her son, said: "In the first days after I lost my son, I felt the need to take revenge, until one day people from the forum came to us. At first, I rejected outright any possibility of sitting face to face with the enemy who took my son, but slowly over time I began to participate And I became active in the forum."

"I knew people in my situation, Israelis and Palestinians," the mother added.

"The desire for revenge was replaced by the desire for peace and a better future. I turn to the mothers who are watching me now, bereavement is the same bereavement, pain is the same pain, today we see more than ever why we need to act together, may we all live in peace."

Yuval Sapir who counseled his sister added that "Education, incitement, the media and belief in a jealous and vengeful God drags every effort at reconciliation into the maelstrom of violence. I am an Israeli, a scientist, a father, a bereaved brother. I chose life, I chose to try to break the chain of revenge and hatred. I am a member of the forum The bereaved families".

Neta Ziv, the vice president for diversity and inclusion at Tel Aviv University, said, emphasizing the importance of the ceremony: "Evil spirits, extremist and racist, are blowing these days from official centers of power in Israel, and the purveyors of the evil spirits occupy key positions in the government. They preach Jewish supremacy and work to deepen the occupation.
