Brazil: legalization of six indigenous reserves by Lula, for the first time in five years

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Friday signed decrees legalizing six new reserves for indigenous peoples, the first since 2018, on the last day of a gathering of indigenous people in Brasilia.

These reserves, which guarantee the natives the exclusive use of natural resources, while preserving their traditional way of life, are considered by scientists as a bulwark against deforestation, a major challenge in the fight against global warming.
