PepsiCo continues to work towards more sustainable agriculture

In a new edition of the Demo Farm, PepsiCo Argentina brought together its partners, local and regional producers, and supplier companies to share best practices and initiatives in potato production.

The global food and beverage company, PepsiCo, held a new edition of the Demo Farm, a

meeting of good agricultural practices

promoted by the Agribusiness area of ​​PepsiCo Argentina in the town of Balcarce.   

Throughout the event, which featured the main agricultural producers, technicians, executives, strategic partners and directors of PepsiCo Argentina and Latin America,

the best global practices in potato cultivation were shared to increase productivity, efficiency and quality. in agricultural fields

associated with the company. 

PepsiCo producers in the country are at the global forefront in technology, processes and sustainability.

The event, which was attended by 180 people, focused on the axes of

sustainability, productivity, technology and innovation

, pillars that are part of the "Positive Agriculture" program that PepsiCo announced in 2021 and that includes a series of objectives of positive impact on the entire agricultural production chain by 2030. The main topics developed in the conferences given by experts in the field from one of the producers, Esperanza Sud, in the town of Balcarce were:

  • regenerative agriculture

  • Water use efficiency

  • Digitization and Technology

  • Carbon footprint

For this, companies from the sector that provide technology, machinery, inputs, services, irrigation systems and storage systems, among others, were convened and collaborated.

In Argentina, PepsiCo purchases an average of 60,000 tons of potatoes annually.

“This meeting is our opportunity to be able to continue advancing in the incorporation of productive practices that improve productivity and in turn have a positive impact on the environment and people, as well as to share the latest trends and technologies among farmers.

In addition, it is a space to create ties between producers and companies that provide products, services and technology for the production of potato chips, which share our vision of the need to create a new way of producing that is more sustainable with the planet”, he highlighted. In Argentina,

PepsiCo purchases an average of 60,000 tons of potatoes annually, of which 90% comes from the Balcarce, Otamendi and Tandil areas

, which are close to the company's plant in Mar del Plata.        

In addition, the company purchases an average of 8,000 tons of oats and 3,000 tons of corn annually in Argentina.

PepsiCo producers in the country are at the global forefront in technology, processes and sustainability.

Argentina was one of the first countries in the world to certify all farmers' fields under the most recognized external sustainability standards, such as GlobalGAP and the Rainforest Alliance.

Currently, 100% of

PepsiCo Argentina's potato suppliers are today certified by standards that guarantee economic, environmental and social sustainability

.

On the other hand, in terms of irrigation, technology was incorporated that allows reaching up to 85% efficiency in the use of water.

Among its environmental objectives, the company seeks to improve soil conditions

In April 2021, PepsiCo announced its global strategy to transform the business from start to finish.

PepsiCo's sustainability strategy focuses on the areas where the company has the greatest impact, such as social, productive and economic aspects.

At the same time, models and alliances are built that seek to replicate to have accelerated progress throughout its value chain.

In this way, PepsiCo understands that regeneration is part of its sustainable business model, which is aligned with the Positive Agriculture program that the company is implementing.
