Currently, however, a letter from the DRV flutters into the mailbox, which only comes once every six years.

Berlin – Once every six years, the Deutsche Rentenversicherung sends a special letter to all insured persons and all pensioners.
The letter calls for social elections in 2023.
52 million people are entitled to vote.
But what is it all about?
Here we explain why the social choice is important.
German pension insurance: Social parliaments are re-elected every six years
The German Pension Insurance (DRV) is self-administered, just like the statutory health insurance companies.
This is done by voluntary social parliaments - at the DRV this is the assembly of representatives, at the health insurance companies it is the administrative boards.
The representative assembly of the DRV consists of 30 honorary members: 15 represent the insured, 15 the employers.
So the idea behind it is that anyone who pays contributions for their future pension should also have a right of co-determination.
The social parliaments are re-elected every six years.
In 2023, voters have until May 31 to cast their vote.
Those entitled to vote will receive their voting documents between April 21 and May 3.

So who is up for election?
In the social parliaments, no people are elected, but lists.
Behind them are candidates who then move into parliament.
The lists are organized by associations and unions.
There are different lists for the different insurance companies – you can find out more about them on the website www.sozialwahl.de.
The DRV is the largest insurance company, into which millions of people pay.

In 2023, a women's quota of 40 percent will apply for the first time.
This means that the social parliaments must consist of at least 40 percent female representatives.
What do the social parliaments do?
The most important task that the Assembly of Representatives assumes is the management of the budget.
That means they decide where the money goes.
The meeting also decides who sits on the board of the DRV.
