What happens to the bear now?

Munich – In 2006, the “problem bear” Bruno made numerous headlines in Germany and was even talked about internationally.

Then he was shot by an unknown person, and can now be seen stuffed in the Museum “Mensch und Natur” in Nymphenburg, Munich.

His sister Gaia killed a 26-year-old jogger in northern Italy earlier this year and was caught recently.

The question now is what to do with the new “problem bear”.

Gaia on the way to Bavaria?

The sanctuary offers accommodation

The bear topic is currently an integral part of the headlines in Bavaria.

In addition to Twitter swipes against Bayern, it is mainly about a bear that is probably hanging around near the Alps.

Many are calling for easier shooting, as the Söder cabinet recently decided for the wolf.

In Italy, however, a court must now decide how to deal with Gaia the bear after she killed a 26-year-old jogger in northern Italy.

And again Bayern comes into play.

A Bavarian sanctuary now wants to save her from being shot.

Because the sanctuary for bears in Bad Füssing, district of Passau, has submitted a written declaration of intent to the administrative court in Trento to save the animal from being shot, confirmed Arpád von Gaál, chairman of the Union for Animals and operator of the farm.

So is Gaia coming to Bavaria?

Gaia decision in May: Bavarian sanctuary would have space

The Lower Bavarian sanctuary is also not the only one who made such an offer for the bear.

Therefore, the court in Trento initially refrained from shooting.

The sanctuary for bears in Bad Füssing is currently home to 15 bears that come from captivity and animal welfare.

The bear Gaia could also be admitted there because she is a healthy animal, said Gaál's lawyer.

A decision should be made at the beginning of May at the earliest.

Gaia is currently in a locked wildlife enclosure in northern Italy.

In the meantime, the government of Trento had called for the bear to be killed, and hundreds protested on Sunday, April 23.

Now there seems to be at least the option of the bear continuing to live.
