According to Herrmann, there is nothing wrong with the Bavarian Freinacht tradition of playing tricks on others.
"The limit has clearly been exceeded, for example, when mailboxes are blown up, garbage cans are set on fire and house walls are defaced," explains the Minister of the Interior.
"In addition, unsuccessful free night campaigns can also be dangerous, for example if obstacles are placed on the street or manhole covers are lifted."
According to Herrmann, there are severe penalties.
"The Minister of the Interior also believes that parents have a duty to clearly show their children the limits of the free night," says the statement from the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration.
In recent years, the free nights in Bavaria have mostly gone smoothly.
"Nevertheless, the Bavarian police recorded around 2,200 operations from April 30 to May 1, 2022, of which 444 were disturbances of the peace, 185 offenses involving bodily harm and 70 damage to property with an estimated damage to property of around 65,000 euros," it continues.
