DECRYPTION - The new formula at 49 euros per month, valid on all lines except high-speed trains, aims to reduce pollution and inflation.

The success has tripped the Deutsche Bahn website, long rendered unusable on Monday by the influx of connections.

The German Minister of Transport boasted

"the biggest fare reform that public transport in the Federal Republic has ever seen"

.

According to an estimate by the association of German transport companies (VDV), more than three million people have already purchased their transport ticket for this month, including 750,000 new subscribers.

The price of this monthly subscription is set at 49 euros: an introductory offer, the price of which will be reassessed this year, warned the State and the Länder.

Equally, they finance the new system to the tune of 3 billion euros per year.

With this initiative, Germany wants to support the population in the face of inflation, while promoting the use of less polluting transport.

These two objectives will be difficult to achieve, and there are already many criticisms.
