Special envoy to Mayotte
A song rises from the square next to the pier of the capital of Mayotte, Mamoudzou.
The melody, composed mainly of women's voices, takes flight and reverses alternately, encouraged by the sun or crushed by the heat.
A constant rhythm is given by a drum which pierces the tropical humidity.
Several thousand Mahoraises and Mahorais – less numerous – gathered on Saturday morning, for the second time since the start of Operation Wuambushu, to support the action of the police and the gendarmes to fight against delinquency and illegal immigration. .
Tarps were spread on the ground at the start of the day.
Several dozen women are seated there.
Their face is covered with a mask, the M'sindzano, made of sandalwood paste rubbed on coral.
In a corner of the square, some are burning incense mixed with pepper and salt.
