Katya Echazarreta, the Mexican astronaut who seeks to take Mexico into space

The next time Katya Echazarreta goes to space, she wants to do it hand in hand with Mexico.

The 27-year-old became the first Mexican to travel to space and the youngest woman to do so.

Born in Guadalajara, she moved to San Diego with her family when she was seven years old, seeking better care for her paralyzed sister.

She studied electrical engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, and soon found an opportunity to join NASA as an intern.

In 2022, he flew with five other crew members on a Blue Origin rocket, the company of Amazon magnate Jeff Bezos.

His feat earned him Barbie this year to launch a doll in his honor.
