Commissioner: "I made a mistake in my judgment, in the timing and in the way of removing Ashad from his position" (Yotam Ronan)
The commander of the Tel Aviv District of the Israel Police, Superintendent Ami Ashad, today (Monday) sent a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, RN Yaakov (Kubi) Shabtai, in which he severely criticized the conduct of the latter in regards to his impeachment procedure.
"Last night, my client was summoned to an interview that was defined by you as part of a round of 'interviews for all officials in preparation for a round of appointments', when in practice, it was, in practice, an improper impeachment procedure under the guise of an 'interview,'" stated in a letter signed by Ashed's lawyer, op. D and Notary Amichai Mager.
Later in the letter, Chief Ashad informed Commissioner Shabtai that he does not intend to participate in this round of appointments by the Commissioner, as it is an "invalid and illegal procedure that is essentially void".
"During the 'interview' you hurled false claims at him without allowing him to receive the list of your unfounded claims ahead of time, thus causing a fatal injury to his basic and natural right to consult and prepare for the procedure, to provide a detailed reference to each and every one of the baseless claims you raised in the 'interview,'" it said.
"The 'interview' was conducted by you neither with a selfish mind nor with an open heart, but after you had already formed a decision ahead of time to depose my client and all this without giving my client any real chance to convince you of the arbitrariness, implausibility and mistakes underlying your decision," they added.
