Four people died this Thursday in Moultrie, a small rural town in southern Georgia, in a series of shootings attributed to a man who, after murdering his mother and grandmother, who lived in adjoining houses, and a woman who worked in an area McDonald's restaurant, took his own life, Colquitt County Coroner C. Verlyn Brock said.
The coroner said he did not know if the alleged killer knew the restaurant worker, and did not provide the identity of the man or his victims.
The state Bureau of Investigation said for its part in a statement that there were "multiple deaths" in different places and that local police had requested their help.
“We are working to get more information and locate some additional witnesses,” Special Agent Jamy Steinberg said.
