Five people were sentenced by the courts in connection with the vast security operation called "
Wuambushu
" in Mayotte, others, including minors, having been summoned later, a judicial source said Thursday, May 4.

,” Mayotte public prosecutor Yann Le Bris told AFP.
One person was sentenced in court on prior admission of guilt and on Wednesday evening, four men were sentenced in immediate court to sentences ranging from three years in prison, two of which are firm, to six years firm for acts of "participation with a
weapon to an armed crowd, obstruction of traffic, damage to property and violence against a person holding public authority without incapacity, thefts
”, according to the same source.
The facts were committed during the night of April 23 to 24 in the communes of Bandrélé (south of the island) and Mamoudzou.

The most heavily convicted man, 39, was the subject of an arrest warrant dating from 2021 following a “
seven-year sentence for robbery and forcible confinement
” which has been “
executed
” .

” and that of these 60 people, “

”.
More than 1,800 police or gendarmes are mobilized as part of the "
Wuambushu
" operation.
Interventions have multiplied in the sensitive neighborhoods of the island, where the clashes between the police and young people have been very violent with ambushes, wild blockades, rocks and destruction of vehicles.
