CHICO, California — A 17-year-old girl was shot and wounded early Saturday morning at a party near a university in Northern California, police said.
Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots and found six people with gunshot wounds in a Chico apartment building, Police Chief Billy Aldridge said.
All the victims were taken to hospitals and the teenager died in a hospital.

Two young men, ages 21 and 19, and a 17-year-old remain hospitalized in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police chief.
Two other young men, ages 18 and 20, were treated at the hospital and released, Aldridge said.

The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the community, police said.
No information about the attacker has been provided.
Police had been called to the same address about 30 minutes before the shooting and detained a man suspected of brandishing a firearm, Aldridge said.

That suspect matched the description of a man who was asked to leave another party a mile away at about 12:30 a.m., according to Aldridge.
At the previous party there was a fight and two people were hospitalized with head injuries, one with a wound caused by a bottle and another with a firearm.
The investigation continued on Saturday.
Both parties were held in neighborhoods near California State University, in Chico, a city of about 101,000 located 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Sacramento.
