A secret love, between the cinema and the office, under the accomplice night of Buenos Aires

It is the story of Alicia and Matías, which immediately transports us to that scene and accommodates us as spectators. EDITOR'S COMMENT. Dare to rewrite love.

If we said that movie theaters are film warehouses, we would be making a simplification.

And if we add that they are exhibited periodically, it's a no-brainer.

Those places are also ideal for awakening courtships.

To consolidate recently inaugurated couples.

Matías and Alicia were public accountants, office mates whose destinies would unite beyond cumbersome balance sheets.

The daily work was nuanced with gallant gestures out of context.

But Matías got there and his partner culminated, every day, more frustrated.

The situation became untenable.

To free unnerved words, he estimated that a trip to the cinema, in a late-night show, could favor the declaration of his secret love.

And so it was that he chose a work that demanded extreme attention from his admired lady: a film by Ingmar Bergman.

Dense and intricate.

He thought that the concentration sought would allow him

to advance with a surreptitious hand or an unsuspected slip.

In the middle of the drama, she put an arm around Alicia's shoulder and waited.

He feared a hostile reaction, but no.

In his unbridled eagerness, he even thought he saw a pleased rictus.

It was not a question of relaxing the maneuver.

Hence, this attitude was followed by a subtle touch of the hand.

While the film plot gained momentum, the two, unaware of the plot, exchanged complicit glances and decided, with muffled voices, to continue the encounter in a more underhanded and less strident place.

When the tension grew and the spectators pressed against the backs of their seats, they had no better idea than to get up and cause the annoyance of many.

The next stop was a small bar on Corrientes Avenue,

intimate and covered with prying eyes.

First they were joined by a sparkling drink;

essential to fuel the dialogue.

Later, repeated coffees.

It was urgent to keep the eyelids up because the themes, between the protagonists, flowed in gushes and it was not the case to appease them.

Without realizing it, their watches marked five in the morning.

Soon, the lights of the marquees of cinemas and theaters went out.

Billboards such as "sensational success" and "coming soon" were called to rest.

On leaving, they made contact with other night owls who had worn out their soles after an intense bustle on wide sidewalks.

At neighboring tables there were apprentice poets.

Dreamers who, on narrow napkins, had stamped their rhymes and metaphors.

Also, more advantaged couples who intertwined their hands and started cuddling, premonitory of love on a large scale.

A reality that they had not reached but that, intrinsically, they aspired to.

Due to the lateness of the hour there was no possibility of returning to their homes.

The company where they worked was clearly in the crosshairs.

In addition, as a backdrop, a persistent rain had unleashed.

The one that, depending on the circumstances, appears invasive or beneficial.

While for some it is reduced to a meteorological phenomenon, torrential or mild, for two enthusiastic about the rise, its influence was less prosaic.

Favorable for, under the deluge,

Matías extended a long-awaited protective arm over Alicia's shoulder.

By now, sure he wouldn't unleash the slightest complaint.

With the passing of the hours, a sleepy Buenos Aires gave way to a frantic and forced dawn.

The flower stalls, which had been closed until minutes before, were filled with aromas.

Trucks covered with newspapers agitated the streets and unloaded, overwhelmingly, on the sidewalks, packaged news.

Meanwhile, the couple in the story, back at their desks, had been forced to hide from their boss -and with effort- numerical errors attributable to lack of sleep.

A defect that, of course, was never revealed and that the manager never suspected.

In that framework, hiding repeated yawns was almost a feat.

To top it off, a suspicious classmate had noticed that Alicia's sweater and pants were the same ones she had worn the day before.

In her role as "hound", she also perched on Matías.

Her indiscreet look allowed us to discover that that morning, someone always dapper, had appeared with a stubble and a striking checkered jacket that she refrained from wearing for two days in a row.

The first initiative, in pursuit of establishing a formal couple, had been consummated.

Matías had overcome her inhibitions and Alicia was confident that new and promising chapters would be added to the book they had begun to write.

THE EDITOR'S COMMENT

By Cesar Dossi

Dare to rewrite love

With exquisite rhetoric, the reader tells the story of Alicia and Matías who, in a consensual night of complicity, managed to

break with the monotony and tension of a secret love

, to live a dream.

There, desire was stronger than fear and they managed to embark on a movie adventure.

The frame overflows with places and aromas that immediately transport us to that scene and

accommodate us as spectators

in the face of these everyday situations that seem to be more common than we think.

It takes us away from the banal, and the chronicle

sits us in the chair next to sensitivity to give way to passion

.

It is that the Buenos Aires night, with its imprint, is an invitation to the imagination.

Some are already going through that unique moment and others still do not dare to put their hand on their partner's shoulder to enjoy that magic that makes their hearts race.

Taking courage and sustaining that courage to

take the first step and be encouraged to break the ice

is what Matías achieved, overcoming that shyness that sometimes makes them turn back those words that, trembling, were launched with great audacity.

The film

"Love after love" has already been released,

inspired by his life and work, in those stormy years of Fito Páez and our history as a country in the last 30 years, perhaps today that is the appropriate excuse for an invitation, a meeting or perhaps a date, and then tour Corrientes Avenue as Alicia and Matías did with the chosen couple.

Or any other place can be the perfect place for a statement.

It is that

love appears in the least expected way

, that universal feeling decompresses and rescues us from reality, from what overwhelms us, from the trivial.

That is why it transcends us, it goes beyond our limits of understanding.

We do not know how the story of these two characters ends.

The reader leaves that desire for more, to know, to meddle in their lives to snoop on more details.

But let's encourage ourselves to think that it's just the beginning of a love and let's give it an end.

Let's celebrate the existence of those who dare to take a step towards love, those who are encouraged to

write and rewrite the script of their life stories as a couple.

So necessary to feel alive with illusions and projects.

Perhaps it is you and the person you chose to love each other, the protagonists of a film with an uncertain design.
