With the
provincial ruling party
as the
clear favorite
to retain the governorship, the provincial elections in Misiones closed.
The day was
complicated by the heavy rains
that were recorded in a large part of the territory and some minor incidents between militants from different political factions in the interior of the province.
In Misiones, the
Concord Renewal Front
has governed the province for two decades and surveys indicate that the formula of Hugo Passalacqua - Lucas Romero Spinelli will prevail over Martín Arjol - Natalia Dörper, of Together for Change.
Kirchnerism, which was divided at the polls, would be third.
Despite the bad weather conditions,
the polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m.
, but in the early hours there was little voter turnout, who speculated that the rains would stop, something that did not happen.
Despite everything,
after noon almost half of the register
of 989,148 voters had voted.
With this percentage, the authorities speculated that attendance will be above 60% at the end of the day.
Requests to vote
The ruling party and opposition candidates
urged the population to overcome the obstacles and go to the polling stations
.
During the day, the intense rains exposed the building problems of many schools: flooded patios and waterfalls in corridors forced the authorities to move the tables.
The electoral authorities enabled 2,943 tables in Misiones in 457 schools in the 78 municipalities of the province.
In addition to renewing the Executive Branch, voters must elect
mayors, councilors and 20 provincial legislators
.
And that is where the Renovation Front is playing a difficult game, since it puts 16 seats at stake, while Together for Change must revalidate three and one Kirchnerism.
Throughout the day and as is tradition, the ruling party displayed a
huge fleet of taxis, remises and private vehicles
identified with the colors of the different candidates for mayors (in Misiones the Lema de Lemas governs), which were in charge of bringing voters to schools.
In addition, the Government ordered that people who use urban and interurban public passenger transport travel free of charge.
Even so, election day is expected to close with
percentages well below the almost 79% achieved in 2019
, when Oscar Herrera Ahuad was consecrated governor.
