According to this, a 53-year-old drove around 6.40 p.m. on the A 73 towards Feucht.
At the Nürnberg-Süd motorway junction, he switched to the A 6 in the direction of Heilbronn.
According to the police, a technical defect finally caused an ignition in the engine compartment.
"The driver was able to stop at the hard shoulder just in time and get out unharmed," the press release said.

The fire was extinguished by the Nuremberg professional fire brigade.
