The evacuation plan for migrants from the Lampedusa hotspot was immediately launched - it is learned -
with the coordination of the Commissioner for the immigration emergency Valerio Valenti and the prefect of Agrigento and with the support of the Defence, the Finance Police and the Port authorities.
The transfer of migrants will take into account the time needed to carry out the identification and first health care procedures.
One of the priorities that the prefect Valenti worked on in these first weeks as commissioner was precisely to develop a device that allows the hotspot to be emptied
of the island in the moments of peak of the landings, which frequently coincide with the weekend, as happened in these hours.
The aim is to prevent the structure - which has a capacity of around 400 seats - from being overwhelmed by arrivals, causing conditions of unlivability for the guests, who today have nearly reached 1,700.
The plan provides for the involvement of Coast Guard, Finance Police, Navy and Air Force vehicles, as well as scheduled ferries, to organize transfers to the mainland as quickly as possible, thus avoiding clogging of the hotspot.
The aim is for a "structural solution" for Lampedusa with the activation of almost a thousand new places of very first reception to reduce the migratory pressure on the island as it prepares for the summer tourist season
