A number of customers were happy to discover on the website Islands Digital a sale offering the purchase of an iPad for NIS 399 • Company representatives called customers to cancel the orders • The Consumer Council said: "The Consumer Protection Law states that the binding price is the price displayed on the product, but the courts do not always rule in favor of consumers" • Islands Digital: "We apologize for the inconvenience"

After iDigital mistakenly advertised last weekend that the price of an iPad was NIS 399 instead of NIS 3,299, company representatives called customers to inform them that this was a mistake and that there were regulations on the matter.

The regulations state: "Please note: Although the store management is careful to check the prices appearing on the site, sometimes there may be an error that will result in an incorrect price being displayed on the site. In this case, a customer service representative will contact you after placing the order, inform you of the correct price of the product and allow you to confirm that you wish to purchase it at the right price."

In addition, the regulations state: "If you do not approve this within three days - or if you refuse to purchase the product at the correct price - the company will not be obligated to supply it, in which case you will have no claims against the company. The company will offer prices, payment terms, promotions and benefits unique to each sales channel, department or item, and you will have no grievances about this variance."

"According to the Consumer Protection Law - this is the price"

"I purchased an iPad last night on the iDigital website for 399 shekels," one customer told Israel Hayom. "It happened over the weekend and they probably didn't notice. The price included one model with Wi-Fi. Please note that I received a booking confirmation and today they called me to cancel. I was told that their regulations state that if there is a malfunction, they can cancel the order and sell the product at the original price. According to the Consumer Protection Act they are charged the price displayed, but apparently they are legally covered in case of error. I read about some guys who managed to get out of it in court."

Asked if it didn't seem unreasonable to her, she replied: "Of course it doesn't, but since the price was on one purple product, I said to myself that maybe they made some kind of discount."

The Consumer Council said: "The Consumer Protection Law states that the binding price is the price displayed on the product, and the law also applies to websites. Some companies 'absorb' the mistake. For example, there was a hotel that advertised rooms for 59 shekels instead of 559 shekels a night, and until he discovered the mistake he decided to absorb the difference. On the other hand, a large retail chain advertised refrigerators at a price of NIS 179 (a 900% discount from the original price) and canceled the orders. The courts do not always rule in favor of consumers, especially if the incorrect price presented is unrealistic."

Islands Digital said in response: "As soon as the mistake was discovered, the price was corrected. We have attached the relevant section of the regulations and its reference to such an issue. We apologize for any inconvenience caused."
