The wave of price increases is in full swing: The Price Control Committee headed by the Ministry of Finance approved an increase in the price of supervised bread by 5.02%, following the request of the bakeries. Finance Minister Smotrich and Economy Minister Barkat must sign the committee's recommendation in order for it to take effect. As of now, Economy Minister Nir Barkat refuses to sign the order approving the increase.
If the price committee's decision is approved, the price of sliced uniform bread will be NIS 8.30 instead of NIS 7.91 today. The starting price will rise to NIS 6.57 instead of NIS 6.26 today.

In July of last year, Economy Minister Orna Barbivai decided not to approve the Price Committee's recommendation to remove supervision over the price of bread, claiming that doing so would have immediately increased its price. Since then, the price of bread has remained under control and is now rising due to the increase in inputs.
