The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice to suspend the gubernatorial elections in Tucumán and San Juan four days before the elections emboldened the opposition, which came out to criticize the maneuvers attempted by Peronist governors Juan Manzur and Sergio Uñac: "The Supreme Court put them in a box."
"No one is above the Constitution, that is the fundamental rule of our republic. The Court's decision is the one that corresponds to a country that respects the law. We must abandon forever the attempts to violate the provincial electoral rules to perpetuate themselves in power, "said the head of the Buenos Aires government and presidential candidate Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.
One of the toughest was Patricia Bullrich. "We stopped the re-elections of Manzur and Uñac. They believe themselves to be feudal lords and owners of their provinces. They wanted to violate their own constitutions and the Supreme Court put them in a box. With us, this will not happen," said the former security minister.
"The ruling of the CSJN is correct and in accordance with our Constitution. We must not be lukewarm in defence of the democratic republic. The alternation in power is not deceived, because it puts the popular will at stake. Enough of re-elections and feudal lords of the PJ who do what they are told," said Maximiliano Ferraro, president of the Civic Coalition.
For his part, the president of the racial bloc in Deputies, Mario Negri, said: "Once again the Court stops the re-election attempts of PJ governors who force the provincial constitutions to perpetuate themselves. It happened with Santiago and Río Negro before and today with San Juan and Tucumán. The PJ must try to respect the laws and the democratic game."
On the other hand, Deputy Mariana Zuvic, of the Civic Coalition, pointed to Judge Lorenzetti: "Finally an act of justice in the face of so much abuse in provinces subjected by feudal lords. As always Lorenzetti in the embracing darkness of impunity."
