The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning heard a request by the police to extend for the second time the detention of Masrawa, who is suspected of murdering his wife and two young children a week and a half ago in Taibeh. Masrawa allegedly stabbed his two-and-a-half-year-old sons, Amir and Adam, to death while they slept in their beds. He then murdered his wife Baraa.
At first he denied murdering them and claimed that when he returned home he discovered the bodies. However, in recent days there have been developments in the investigation and Masrawa confessed to committing the horrific murder. His detention was extended by a week and he was sent for psychiatric observation to assess his mental fitness. A police source said: "He confessed to the acts and can tell what he did, but at this stage he is not explaining why he did it." Police representative Yaniv Hindi said at the hearing: "The suspect confessed to the murder and recovered."
Taybeh Mayor Shua'a Masarwa Mansour said the family was not known to the police or welfare. "This is a respectable family. The family is not known to the welfare authorities. As far as the PA was concerned, there was no red light. The picture is still unclear."
At home, the mother's family found it difficult to digest the horrific incident. Her father, Adel Jaber, said: "We are in shock. My daughter woke me up and told me that Baraa and her two children had been murdered. I don't know what to say. Her husband's parents were proud of her, sometimes she would invite them to dinner at our house. We've all lost the flowers of our family."
Baraa's father said that before the murder, the family had been on vacation in Eilat. "Last time we spoke on the holiday. She and my two grandchildren hugged me and then they left. They were on a trip and came back, we didn't expect it to end in murder."
