An unusual incident in Tel Aviv: A violent brawl took place yesterday (Monday) between police officers and teenagers during a Scout Party held in south Tel Aviv. Two youths were injured, one of them by a punch by an inspector of the Tel Aviv municipality's Sela unit.
The event began with a party of scout tribe members from north Tel Aviv who rented a loft in the city. Shortly after 23:00 P.M., the police began receiving complaints about excessive noise and bottles being thrown. The first team to arrive at the scene claimed to have noticed drunk youths, and additional teams arrived, including the Sela unit.
After the officers asked to turn down the music and enter the scene, the youths began arguing with the officers and SLA inspectors, and a violent confrontation soon began. The teenagers claim that it was the police who started attacking them. One of the boys had his glasses broken, and at the end of the confrontation, two suspects were detained – an 18-year-old man suspected of supplying alcohol to the scene and a 15-year-old boy who, according to police, assaulted police officers.
The Israel Police said: "From our examination of the videos provided to us, the use of force was not carried out by the police. Last night, the police received numerous reports of noise and bottles being thrown into the street from a loft for rent. A policeman who arrived at the scene reported dozens of youths and asked for assistance. Additional forces arrived, including forces from the Tel Aviv municipality.
"After several police officers were attacked by the revellers, the party was stopped. Minors were found at the scene in a drunken state and a large number of bottles of alcohol. Police arrested two suspects, including an adult suspected of supplying alcohol to minors and assaulting police officers. The investigation into the incident is ongoing."
