After the refugee summit of the federal and state governments, Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil emphasized that, from the point of view of the states, further financing issues still need to be clarified. "The discussion is not over, but it will be continued in great depth," said the SPD politician. After the consultations on Wednesday in Berlin, however, he was confident that he would come to further conclusions.
Berlin - The decision of the meeting showed that the federal and state governments are postponing their fundamental decision on permanently higher federal funds for refugee costs. This is to fall at a meeting in November. For 2023, however, the federal government pledged an additional one billion euros as a refugee lump sum.
Literally, the paper on the demand of the federal states states: "From the point of view of the states, there is a need for a breathing system in which the financial support of the federal government is based on the number of refugees entering the country." In addition to a monthly per capita lump sum, this should include, among other things, a full reimbursement of the costs of accommodation. The federal government, on the other hand, said it considered a "breathing system for support" to be already established.
Weil said the decision was better than what he thought was possible just a day or two ago. "We, the federal and state governments, are aware of our shared responsibility," he said as chairman of the Minister-Presidents' Conference (MPK). Dpa
