A lecturer at Reichman University's School of Government made a controversial statement: Dr. Uri Goldberg claimed online that the Israeli government consists of a bunch of fanatics who kill without obvious need, sparking outrage. He then added: "It is clear that the Israeli government prefers to kill Palestinian civilians in order to advance a political agenda whose clear expression is the worsening of the security situation of Israeli citizens."
Goldberg, a lecturer at Reichman University's School of Government and Strategy (formerly IDC Herzliya), responded to the IDF's "Shield and Arrow" military operation in which Islamic Jihad leaders were eliminated in an attack that also killed a number of non-involved civilians, including children.

Goldberg wrote online: "The whole debate about the legality of killing children seems like the delusional one it is. The Israeli government is portrayed as a bunch of fanatics who kill without obvious need," he added, adding, "Which is true." He added: "Israel sends Ben-Gvir to talk to Europe and then kills children in Gaza without any consequences? Well not really. Slowly but surely, Israel's status as a responsible partner is eroding."
The criticism - and the response to the criticism
Naturally, his statements provoked criticism. According to Shai Rosengarten, head of Im Tirtzu's education division: "Dr. Uri Goldberg, who doubts whether he has ever looked into the eyes of a family that has been living under fire in the Gaza envelope for 15 years, dares to preach about harming innocent people. Instead of defaming the security forces and the Israeli government, it would be better to examine what cruel crimes the terrorist organizations in Gaza committed until we were forced to launch the current operation. It is a shame that such a person serves as a lecturer who is supposed to impart knowledge to students in Israel."
Dr. Uri Goldberg said in response: "For many years, Israel has not carried out a targeted killing, as a result of which so many civilians, women and children were killed. The fact that such a thwarting has now been carried out indicates that this is a conscious political decision. A clear logic for the decision: to broadcast to organizations in Gaza that 'the landlord has gone crazy.' There is no security justification for this message, certainly not in the framework of a ceasefire and not even before Jerusalem Day.
"Its goal is clear - setting the area on fire. What is the logic behind the conflagration? I'm not even asking to guess. What is clear is that the Israeli government prefers to kill Palestinian civilians in order to advance a political agenda whose clear expression is the worsening security situation of Israeli citizens.
