There has been a shipping accident on the Danube. Two passengers were injured. The skipper is now threatened with a complaint.
Passau – On Thursday evening, 11 May, a shipping accident occurred on the Danube in Passau. According to the information, the skipper had misjudged the current at a jetty. The Swiss hotel ship had then crashed into a rock. Two passengers were injured.
Shipwreck on the Danube: Two passengers injured
According to the police, the ship had previously come from Regensburg and was supposed to dock on the left bank of the Danube. But the skipper probably misjudged the current. When mooring, the right stern of the ship got too far to the shore and crashed into the rock. Most of the 190 American passengers were already in their cabins, but two fell. One passenger suffered a head laceration, another a bruise on his right shoulder. Both were treated by ambulance services and an emergency doctor, but did not need to be taken to hospital.
The ship itself was damaged and dented on the outer skin in the stern area, but remained waterproof. Inside the ship, several cabinets were broken. In the engine room, a compressor was torn out of its anchorage. According to the police, the property damage amounts to over 100,000 euros.

Accident on the Danube: skipper threatens to report
According to police reports, the skipper is now facing charges of negligent bodily injury. On Friday afternoon, 12 May, the ship will still be at the pier in the Lindau district of Passau.
It is not possible to continue the journey - due to the persistent rain there is a flood and the ship cannot pass the bridge. As soon as the water levels are lower again, the ship can continue its journey with the passengers.
