For the weak performance of the Greens in the state elections on Sunday in Bremen, state board spokesman Florian Pfeffer sees several reasons. A head-to-head race between the SPD and the CDU is never really good for small parties, he said in the evening. "There was no tailwind from Berlin for us at the moment," he added. In addition, the party must "do more" and "improve" in view of the current concerns of some citizens.
According to the first forecast of the ARD, the Greens came to 12.5 percent in the state elections on Sunday, making them the third strongest force after the SPD and CDU. However, this would have meant that the party would have lost about 2019 percentage points compared to 5. The consequences of this will not be discussed until Monday. "I think it's obvious that there have to be consequences," Pfeffer said.
He spoke out in favour of a continuation of the governing coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the Left Party. Regarding a possible grand coalition, he said: "A look at Berlin in the last few weeks is enough for me to see that I don't think it's a good idea for a federal state." dpa
