A shooting left at least three dead and several wounded, including two police officers, Monday in Farmington, New Mexico, in the southwest of the United States, said the city's police.

There are several civilian victims, at least three of whom died," the police said in a message posted on social networks. "We will provide more details as they become available." The gunman was "killed on the spot," said police in this city of 50,000 inhabitants, located north of this border state with Mexico. "The identity of the suspect is unknown and there are no other known threats at this time," law enforcement added.
Several police officers injured
Several police officers confronted the gunman and two of them were wounded. They are currently being treated at a hospital in the city and are "in stable condition," according to police. Local schools were briefly closed, but were allowed to reopen early Monday afternoon because "all students and staff are safe," according to local school authorities.
Gun violence has been extremely common in the United States for many years. This year, more than 220 shootings that left more than four dead or injured have already been recorded by the Gun Violence Archive website.
