Clashes broke out Friday between Jewish and Muslim worshippers near the Lions' Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. The police dispersed the rioters with stun grenades.

An MDA spokesperson said: At 12:06 P.M., a report was received at the Jerusalem District Emergency Hotline about people injured by stone-throwing near the exit of the Muslim cemetery on Ophel Road in the Old City of Jerusalem, near the Lions' Gate. MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment to the wounded and evacuated two young men aged about <> to Shaare Zedek Hospital in the city, in light condition and fully conscious with head injuries."

"A short time ago there was a violent disturbance in the Lions' Gate area, which included clashes between those involved, throwing objects and stones at police officers and Border Police soldiers who were operating at the scene and separated the rioters," a Jerusalem District Police spokeswoman said. "As a result, a number of people involved, including a police officer, were injured and required medical treatment. The police and Border Police forces worked to impose order, prevent friction, and clashes at the site while using means to disperse disturbances."

"Police forces are working at this time to maintain public order and prevent riots, disturbances and violence in the Old City of Jerusalem," the police added. "We will continue to act resolutely against violence of any kind, disturbances of public order and attempts to harm police officers or civilians in violation of the law."
