The disappearance of Madeleine McCann is one of the unsolved cases that generates more intrigues in the world. Last week, a new and shocking operation that was carried out in Portugal put the issue back on the front page of newspapers and portals.

Between Tuesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 25, dozens of troops toured the Barragem do Arade dam – about 50 kilometers from Praia da Luz, where the girl was kidnapped – in search, among other things, of the pink pajamas that the little girl was wearing the last time she was seen.

But that's not all. Now, the British press revealed shocking letters written by Christian Brueckner (45), the main suspect in the case, in which he assures that he "did not" kidnap or murder the young woman.

Currently, the German is in prison for raping a 72-year-old woman at the same time and place as Maddie's incident and is the number one suspect in what German prosecutors consider "a murder."

Between May 23 and 25, the most important search operation for Maddie in the last 9 years was carried out.

He is also facing prosecution for allegedly raping three other adult women in Portugal and indecently exposing himself to two girls aged 10 and 11.

Madeleine McCann case: the letters of the main suspect

The Daily Mail first published a series of letters purportedly written by a desperate and obsessive Brückner, in which he tries to prove that he had nothing to do with the kidnapping of the girl that occurredon May 3, 2007 in a resort in Praia da Luz where he was vacationing with his family.

Among others, the abuser sent a letter a few days before the start of this latest search in the area.

By hand, with pencil and in almost perfect English, Brueckner dissociates himself from the case and accuses the German justice system of practically "harassing" him. He also made surprising sexual allegations about key members of the investigative team that the outlet decided not to publish in full.

"I'm talking about a gay investigator who is in love with a big criminal. Scandalous. Have you ever heard that a hunter is killing his prey?"

As for the case and the consequences he says he is living for this false accusation, Brueckner elaborated on the missives he sent from prison.

Christian Brueckner is the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

"You can't imagine what it's like when everyone thinks you're a child killer, and you're not. I was told a long time ago that the prosecutor's office was closing Maddie's case because there is not even the slightest evidence. There will never be a trial," he wrote.

"The prosecutors are not saying anything to the public because they must hand over the files to my lawyers, and they contain a lot of material that confirms my innocence."

Then, complaining about the psychological battle he says he's going through, Brueckner added: "The torture I'm going through is the best evidence I can have. If someone had said things like that to me before, I would have said, 'No, I don't believe you.' This is Germany and not Pakistan. I can't say the actual treatment I'm getting because I don't have the right words to describe it. Of course, all this happens on the orders of the BKA (German criminal police)."

And, according to Daily Mail, in a hint to the investigators, he maintained that: "They will never understand that the idea they had was brilliant, I already said that Hollywood could not do better, but they chose the wrong main actor: me."

Brueckner ended this letter by complaining once again that he is being used as a scapegoat, but remains firmly convinced that time will prove him innocent.

"I am writing this without self-pity and my self-confidence and self-control have never been at a higher level. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Courage! Better days are coming," he concluded.

Madeleine McCann disappeared on 3 May 2007 in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

The four-page letter ends with a drawing of a daisy having its petals cut off and the words "not guilty" and "guilty" circulating around it and the legend "Spring is coming..." next to it.

The letters of Christian Brueckner: the analysis of a graphologist

Graphologist Tracey Trussell, who examined the latest missive and others he sent in the past two years, explained that they showed Brueckner was "distorted, deceived" and that his "fantastic views are constant, unchanging," Daily Mail reported.

She said her handwriting showed someone who wanted to "command and control" and added that "the long, extended stroke on the reclining letter S is a symbol of 'someone suffering with feelings of guilt.'"

He added: "In some cases, this symbol is seen where a violent death has occurred near the writer, and they are trying to accept it. Whatever the truth is, there is a need to continuously feed your ego, and your ultimate goal is to gain some kind of recognition."
