When it comes to a city that is 3,000 years old, even a delay of 75 years can be considered the blink of an eye. In a very slow process – military, settlement, political and diplomatic, Israel and its lovers are establishing facts on the ground and bringing the historic city of the Jewish people, against the backdrop of Russia's decision to send an embassy in the center of the capital, according to a secret agreement between the two countries, a copy of which was obtained by Israel Hayom.

The object of the prayers and dreams of generations, the Jerusalem of gold, to its rightful status. Heel by thumb, stone by stone, it goes recognized as the state capital of the Jewish people.

Let us say frankly. If it were not for us Jews, and not for our city, which is a religious, historical and emotional symbol for billions, the many distortions concerning Jerusalem would not have emerged. The countries of the world would automatically recognize it as our capital, just as they allow each country to choose its capital. They would not reach out to her and insist on every grain of land that their ancestors ever purchased. They would not intervene in the dispute between the Arabs of the country and us, to whom it belongs, and they would not try, through funds, associations, pressure and threats, to force us to give up the sanctity of our lives. And of course, if it weren't for us in the story, there wouldn't be a newborn "Palestinian people" pretending to have historical rights and demanding it as its capital, and there wouldn't be so many peoples backing it.

So the challenge is on a global scale, and will not be solved in one day. Still, the direction is clear. Ever since Ben-Gurion established Jerusalem as Israel's capital, under the principle, "It doesn't matter what the gentiles say, it matters what the Jews do," Israel's hold on Jerusalem has grown stronger. Of the three major powers in the world – the United States, Russia and China – only the latter has yet to recognize Jerusalem at all. Compared to the starting point of the 1947 partition resolution, in which the UN for some reason defined Jerusalem as an "international city," this is tremendous progress.

There is still a lot of work to be done. The demographic trend in the city, both vis-à-vis Arabs and within the Jewish population, is not positive. The scope of construction and reinforcement of the area surrounding Jerusalem is insufficient. On the political level, the Foreign Ministry should appoint a permanent envoy whose job it is to promote the elevation of embassies to Jerusalem. His hands will be full of work but will also reap fruit.
