Public bus and train fares are expected to increase by an average of about 12% in July, if no financing solutions are found. This is confirmed today by the Ministry of Transport. The main reason for the increase in prices is the increase in the public transport index. Negotiations are currently underway between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport in order to try to moderate or cancel the increase in prices.
"This is an inheritance that we received from the previous government, the regulation of raising prices was signed by former Finance Minister Lieberman and former Minister Michaeli," the Transportation Ministry said.
"From the moment Minister Regev was updated on this situation, she is working together with Finance Minister Smotrich in order to postpone the decree and find a solution to the increase in public transportation prices imposed on us by the previous government, which is supposed to come into effect on July 1. It is inconceivable that with the current cost of living, public transport prices will rise by 12%."
