The State Comptroller today (Monday) published the report of the Ombudsman in the Comptroller's Office. According to the report, in 2022, the Ombudsman received 21,44 complaints from citizens, <>% of which were found to be justified.

Against the backdrop of Communications Minister Shlomo Krei's move to oust Postal Board Chairman Mishael Vaknin on the grounds that the Postal Service's level is poor and the implications are evident in the poor public trust in the company and its image, State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman today published the Ombudsman's Report for 2022, indicating a 32% decrease in the number of complaints about Israel Post for 2022. It should be noted that these are figures relating to 2022. This is a decrease from 1,022 complaints in 2021 to 691 complaints in 2022. In 2020, 836 complaints were received.

The government ministry that led in the rate of complaints was the Ministry of Transport during the previous government, when MK Merav Michaeli served as MK. According to the report, the ministry received 1,626 complaints. It was followed by the Ministry of Economy and Industry – 1,353 complaints, the National Insurance Institute – 1,341 complaints, the Population and Immigration Authority – 1,160 complaints, the Israel Police – 790 complaints, the Israel Postal Company Ltd. – 691 complaints, the Israel Tax Authority – 637 complaints, the Ministry of Health – 630 complaints, the Ministry of Education – 584 complaints and the Ministry of Construction and Housing – 486 complaints.

Between 2019 and 2022, there was a 47% increase in complaint letters received by the Commission, indicating an increase in confidence in the Commission. 36.4% of the complaints handled in 2022 dealt with the issue of public service received from various state bodies.

Israel Post was among the bodies for which the percentage of justified complaints was greater than the general rate of justified complaints. Thus, in 2022 this rate stood at 68.5% – a decrease of about 10%, compared to 2021, when the rate of justified complaints was 75.4%. In 2020, this rate was 73.4% in 2020.

In the Ministry of Economy the rate of justified complaints was 2022.88% in 5, in the Population Authority the rate of justified complaints was 69.1%, in the Israel Electric Corporation the percentage of justified complaints was 2022.41% in 9, in the Ministry of Education it was 40.5%, in the Israel Land Authority it was 41.7%, in the Bnei Brak Municipality it was 63.2%,

State Comptroller and Ombudsman Matanyahu Engelman responded to the report, saying: "In 2022, a new record was set in the number of complaints received by the Ombudsman since its establishment, regarding services provided by state authorities. The Ombudsman received about 21,44 complaints, <>% of which were found to be justified or corrected. Government bodies must act as service providers in a competitive market, and improve the attitude and service they provide. I call on anyone who has been wronged by the state authorities to file a complaint with our office. It is important that the state authorities learn from the cases presented in the report and act to correct the deficiencies."
