Highlights: The results of the elections in the Bar Association have implications for the coalition. They promote a change in the composition of the committee for the selection of judges. At the moment, the coalition is talking about preparing the text of the law already in the current conference and passing it at the winter conference. The coalition is already considering advancing in the Ministerial Committee on Legislation this coming Sunday MK Hanoch Milivetsky's bill, which will in effect cause the dissolution of the Chamber. The bill was supposed to advance several weeks ago, but it was delayed so as not to harm negotiations held at the president's residence.

The results of the Bar Association elections, which were won by attorney Amit Bahar, who is affiliated with the struggle against the reform, give the coalition legitimacy to act • "If Efi Naveh had won, there would have been an excuse for the government and the right not to change the composition of the committee" • The government plans to prepare the text of the law in the upcoming conference and pass it at the winter conference

After the results of the Bar Association elections were published on Wednesday, in which Adv. Amit Bahar, the candidate identified with the struggle against the reform, defeated Efi Nave, who is considered the more convenient candidate for supporters of the reform, sources in the Likud and the coalition said: "If Efi Naveh had won, there would have been an excuse for the government and the right not to change the composition of the committee because perhaps conservative representatives from the Bar Association would have been elected. Now, with Behar's victory, the motivation to change the composition of the judicial selection committee is increasing."

As noted, the results of the elections in the Bar Association have implications for the coalition and promote a change in the composition of the committee for the selection of judges. At the moment, the coalition is talking about preparing the text of the law already in the current conference and passing it at the winter conference. The coalition wants to change the composition of the committee so that judges and lawyers' representatives will not be part of it, but clarify that contrary to the original version of the reform, the committee will not determine a majority for the coalition.

At the same time, it seems that the composition of the committee is not the only influence. The coalition is already considering advancing in the Ministerial Committee on Legislation this coming Sunday MK Hanoch Milivetsky's bill, which will in effect cause the dissolution of the Chamber. The coalition stresses that if the law moves forward, it will not apply immediately to Amit Bahar's term, so as not to cause artificial interference in the election results.

According to the bill, the Bar Association will become a veteran body and will be replaced by a council whose chairman will be appointed by the Minister of Justice and most of its representatives will be appointed by the government and the Knesset. In addition, the committee will be deprived of some of its powers. The original proposal proposed that representatives of the Chamber also be excluded from the Judicial Selection Committee, but now the clause has been removed.

The bill was supposed to advance several weeks ago, but it was delayed so as not to harm the negotiations held at the president's residence.

At the same time, the coalition is moving towards promoting the reduction of reasonableness, the first law decided to advance in the legal reform. After the discussion in the Constitution Committee was canceled last night due to the attack on Ali, Constitution Committee Chairman MK Rotman will convene the committee next week on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays in order to advance the legislation intensively and pass it by the end of the current summer conference, which will end at the end of July.
